An inkjet printer is a type of computer printer that creates a digital image by propelling droplets of ink onto paper.

A laser printer is a common type of computer printer that rapidly produces high quality text and graphics on plain paper. As with digital photocopiers and multifunction printers (MFPs), laser printers employ a xerographic printing process but differ from analog photocopiers in that the image is produced by the direct scanning of a laser beam across the printer's photoreceptor.
A laser beam projects an image of the page to be printed onto an electrically charged rotating drum coated with selenium. Photoconductivity removes charge from the areas exposed to light. Dry ink (toner) particles are then electrostatic ally picked up by the drum's charged areas. The drum then prints the image onto paper by direct contact and heat, which fuses the ink to the paper.

The dot matrix printer was by far one of the most popular printing systems ever designed. The printer would be able to produce quality output, at a relatively low cost. Dot matrix printers also are available in a variety of different sizes, from small receipt size printers to large line printers. The disadvantage of dot matrix printers is that the printer does produce a high amount of noise during the printing operation, and the print quality can never approach the quality of either an ink jet printer or a laser printer. The print heads for a dot matrix printer depend upon a small piece of wire to strike a ribbon, thereby creating an impression on the paper's surface. The size of the wire determines the size of the dot printed on the page. A dot matrix printer typically has 9 or 24 pins that make up the print head. This severely limits the quality of output that this printer can produce. The laser or ink jet printer typically can produce anywhere from 300 to 1200 dots per inch, where a dot matrix printer can only approach 240 dots per inch. Nevertheless, these printers remain a cost-effective option for heavy duty, non-letter quality and low graphics operations. service manual is very helpful for servicing the printers.
